E-Commerce or electronic commerce, a subset of e-business, is the purchasing, selling, and exchanging of goods and services over computer networks (such as the Internet) through which transactions or terms of sale are performed electronically. Contrary to popular belief, e-commerce is not just on the Web. In fact, ecommerce was alive and well in business to business transactions before the Web back in the 70s via EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) through VANs (Value-Added Networks). E-Commerce can be broken into four main categories: B2B, B2C, C2B, and C2C. E-business involves business processes spanning the entire value chain: electronic purchasing and supply chain management, processing orders electronically, handling customer service, and cooperating with business partners. Special technical standards for e-business facilitate the exchange of data between companies. E-business software solutions allow the integration of intra and inter firm business processes. IT Law is the law governing cyber space. IT Laws are very wide and includes computers, networks, software, data storage devices (such as hard disks, USB disks etc), the Internet, websites, emails and even electronic devices such as cell phones, ATM machines etc. Violation of these rules could lead to government action such as imprisonment or fine or an order to pay compensation. This Encyclopedia is divided into three volumes and is beneficial for Software Programmers, Website Developers, and Security administrators and for IT Lawyers. This book is beneficial for students, IT professionals, researchers, Lawyers and for all those dealing with electronic business and IT laws.
